Navigation scheme on application

Postby nikolakljaic121_1 » Thu Oct 23, 2014 8:21 am

Hi,
Our client has requested that his application be navigated trought(Up/Down/Left/Right)+OK+Back keys.
But in your development g
uidelinesyou have stated that it is mandatory
to implement navigation trought pointer, ok and back button.

So can we publish app if we do not implemented that navigation?
Also does pointer behaves as mouse pointer?

Best regards,
Nikola.

Hi Nikola,

It is impossible. But your app will be published on less devices than normal if your app only support navigator by general remote.

Thanks for response.

But I did not understand the answer.
From your answer I have concluded that we can publish app but less devices can download it bacause of navigation restriction.

Is this correct?

Best regards,
Nikola.

Yes. (we only receive feedback from LG about this problem, they said that if the app doesn't support pointer, it will be published on less devices than normal)
Basiclly, pointer support is simple (adding mouse event as onclick, onmouseover...). So could you consider of supporting pointer for your app?

Navigation scheme on application

For our client we have made app on Samsung platform and now they want to port to Smart TV Alliance supported TVs.
So we are researching now to see the major differences that needs to be implemented.
Navigation on this app uses only navigation keys and whole UI is designed around this navigation.

On some elements it is not problem to implement pointer navigation.
But we have matrix list that is navigatible by navigation keys up, down, left and right,
So then if we include pointer navigation this component layout needs to change dramatically.
So they need to change UI,look and feel on whole application.
This component is main featureof this app.
And some additional elements needs to be added like buttons to scroll lists up and down.

Basically our client wants to copy paste whole app from samsung to smart tv allaince and publish it with additional implementation time as minimal as possible.
If we need to implement pointer navigation we are adding maybe two additional weeks to implementation time.

So if we do not need to implement this navigation we are only losing a small portion of market.
Save our client money and time.
From our stand point we get the green light for this project :)

It is a win win.

For next versioon of this app we can include both navigation schemes.

Best regards,
Nikola.
